The Supercritical CO2 Advantage

Traditional tissue preparation has been unchanged for years and uses large amounts of toxic and highly flammable solvents, like xylene. This leads to diagnostics being one of the biggest sources of toxic waste in hospitals.

Tispa Medical’s proprietary histopathology process replaces toxic solvents like xylene and iso-propanol with CO2. This is a reclaimed gas with unique features when pressure and temperature are adjusted to induce a supercritical phase.

Using supercritical CO2 and ethanol for the de-hydration of tissues, results in a process time of only 3 hours as compared to around 9 hours with conventional machines. This is the case even with larger fatty tissues (mammary and colon), while still being able to maintain cell morphology of the highest standard.
